Shore Energy Solutions offers a variety of professional services including assisting homeowners, building owners, companies, municipalities and others to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings, manufacturing/processing, and transportation, as well as installing solar equipment and energy-saving products.
We are proficient in testing for air quality, moisture problems and electromagnetic fields.
We also sell a variety of products ranging from a toilet water-saving device to see-through insulating window blinds.
Shore Energy Solutions is proud to be a member of the Better Business Bureau of Vancouver Island. We are an ethical company that believes in providing quality services.
Shore Energy Solutions is a member of the Mid-Island branch of the Canadian Homeowners Association, as well as a member of B.C. Hydro’s Power Smart™ program.
Our Team
Ian Gartshore, President of the company, has been interested in energy conservation for many years. Gaining technological skills at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (1977) and people skills (skills to work with volunteer organizations, conflict resolution), and with a growing passion for energy conservation and renewable energy sources, Ian started Energy Solutions for Vancouver Island. This non-profit organization has been assisting homeowners, businesses and others since 2003.
Realizing that Ian was called to enter this field full-time he incorporated Shore Energy Solutions, Ltd. in 2007. Utilizing the considerable skills he has gained over many years, he is now working with those wise enough to invest in renewable energy and energy-efficient buildings and transportation.
Rod Croome, CEA,B.Comm.,P.Eng.
Rod is an advocate for energy efficiency coupled with economic and environmental sustainability for industry, commercial and residential buildings. His consulting work is to assist clients in reducing energy consumption and lower GHG emissions.
Residential: Experienced in new home construction and design as well as retrofit homes and MURBs (Multi Unit Residential Buildings) to improve the comfort of your home and cut heating and cooling costs, while ensuring adequate ventilation for a healthy indoor environment for your family.
Commercial: Experienced in modeling commercial facilities to determine energy savings for upgrades to help ensure economic viability of retrofit investments and assisting clients in obtaining incentives and grants available.
Industrial: As a graduate mechanical engineer Rod is experienced in pulp and paper, and petrochemical facilities with respect to energy use and optimization, and waste water chemical treatment.
Brian Dietrich, Associate/Consultant comes to us from BC Hydro as a former Environmental Coordinator Technical Specialist after 33 years with the Utility.
Throughout his career and lifetime experiences, Brian has become and expert in:

- Safety, Health and Environmental Inspections, reviews and offers recommendations for improvement
- Qualified Accident Investigator performing root cause analysis and recommendations for future avoidance addressing safety, health and environmental considerations

- Preparation of Operational/Environmental Best Management Practices to ensure compliance of identified aspects
- Expert Advisor on Logistical Analysis covering green procurement, life cycle analysis, sustainability, recycling and resource recovery
- Expert on Comprehensive Resource Recovery and Waste Reduction Methodology
- Expert on Organic Recycling Implementation and Alternatives
- Instructor / Trainer for Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS and Spill Response
- Continually researches new emerging technologies and offers sustainable/environmentally responsible products and services to our customers

John Lafratta, Associate, has a diverse background with experience and interest in a variety of disciplines. In the past few years he has found himself employed as a graphic and web designer, computer technician and bicycle mechanic.
Jawn is currently a student at Vancouver Island University, enrolled in the Green Building and Renewable Energy Technician program. Although he has just recently begun his formal education in the renewable energy field, he has been biking and walking the talk for many years, by advocating for sustainable living through resource conservation, renewable energy production, natural building, alternative transportation, supporting local economies, building community and a lot of other little things which add up to make a big difference.
His goal with Shore Energy is to help people realize the environmental and financial benefits of reducing their consumption of resources, and how easy it truly can be.
Shore Energy Solutions also teams up with other companies, services, non-profits and universities so as to provide the best service available. These professionals include a R2000 instructor, a green interior decorator, green builders, a community planner, a green building designer, a plumber who thinks outside of the box!, an electrician (who specializes in solar technology), and many others. Together, solutions can be created that are imaginative, practical, affordable, and useful.
